Canberra Trip – Monday 2 November 2009

Slept even better this time and had a lighter breakfast than yesterday. Yet another warm and sunny day in Canberra, but this time there are people in the streets, going to work in the many government departments around the city.
Took the bus to the Parliament of Australia up on Capital Hill. it’s a very impressive building although we didn’t climb up the outside lawns, but did walk over the top of democracy on the roof of the parliament building. The inside is just as impressive as the outside with lots of marble and wood, I wonder how much that all costed.
Took the bus then down to Questacon, the national science museum, which was frankly a bit of a disappointment. The exhibitions were very much aimed at children and one of the main ones was out of action. There were some clever things and we both enjoyed the rollercoaster simulator, but they need to spend more money and update the exhibits.
Had a quick stop at the National Library, which just appears to be a large library, no real surprise there.
Took the bus back into the city and on the way out, it stopped at the National Museum of Australia, so we got off to have a look round. This was the best museum that I have seen in Canberra and enjoyed the exhibits and the video presentations. At least the last stop was a good one.
Spend most of the evening in the hotel room, but after seeing the prices of the room service food, we wandered outside for a late dinner and enjoyed the Pancake Parlour.
