Harbour Party 2011

Just got back from a weekend away in Sydney, where I attended the Harbour Party. Went up Friday evening, saw a performance of Carman at the Sydney Opera House and spent Sunday evening at an outside dance party, surrounded by beauty all around - great scenery whichever way I looked. Arrived back in Melbourne on Monday afternoon.

Not perfect

Washed the car for the first time yesterday and discovered its no longer in pristine condition.  Looks like some idiot has opened the door into the passenger side of my car and left a small dent. I knew this would happen one day but I was hoping that it would be several months before it did, not weeks has it turned out.  I don't know exactly who and when, but I have my suspicions.

Lunch with aunt

Took the new car down to Hastings and took my aunt out for lunch. The drive was fine and the food was excellent. There was a small disagreement between my uncle and aunt about a pair of boots she had bought for him. I hope I don't get so set in my ways when I reach their age that I can not deal with change. They have some very strange ideas, but the idea that there will be civil war if Australia becomes a republic was one of the daftest I've heard so far.

Getting used to the new car

I have to refresh my approach to driving as the new car does not perform like the previous one. Where I could be sloppy with the gears with the Swift, the Polo doesn't forgive using the wrong gear as quickly. The car is a different shape and size, which I am not completely accustomed to yet. I think I have the mirrors now in the right positions and managing to get a smoother transition from first to second gear. There are still a few things I need to sort out in the interior of the car before I can relax. However getting there!

It finally arrived and after the stress of the purchase, the ownership is initially proving to be far less stressful. I will be happier once I am more familiar with the interior of the car but I am not regretting deciding on the 3 door model (although I miss having a 1.5l engine!),

Say goodbye to a friend

Ok it's actually just a car but I've had fun driving it, whilst keeping safe and dry, and its been very reliable. In fact it's been more of a "friend" than many of my human friends.
