The Grand Hotel Mildura

Image

Mildura delights

Spend the day wandering around Mildura. First shopping and found some bargains. Then walked down to the Murray and over to their docklands development.

At the edge of civilization

Flew up to Mildura with Murray to present to the council, then stayed behind and to enjoy the town on the edge of Victoria.

Driving to distraction

First of several road trips around the state. I don't make a very good passenger.

Alone again

Graham left in the evening on 28 January and although nice to have the place back, I prefer the company to the single life.

Left Canberra

Had an enjoyable time with Graham in Canberra, attending some of the Australia Day events. Was the best time I've had in Canberra and proves that this city can entertain.

Lighting up Canberra

Sat on the foreshore of Burley Griffen Lake and watched to fireworks to mark the end of Australia Day.

Standing on democracy

After the cruise around the lake and after lunch at the National Museum, we went to Federal Parliament building. Parked underneath, then walked around the interior and stood on the roof.

Dinner on the foreshore

Drive down to the Kingston Foreshore and had dinner at one of the restaurants facing the marina.

Flying into the past

Up up?

Off to Canberra with Graham for a long weekend over the Australia Day holiday. Flying up on a turbo prop plane, first time I've been on one.

What to do

Trying hard to make life more tolerable for one of my work colleagues and hoping it will encourage them to stay longer.

Going routine

Seems like when the process gets routine the good get going. Challenging times at work with the way that work is distributed and the exchange of information.

Imitation Saved

The Imitation Game is an excellent movie and Keira Knightly is wonderful to watch.

Challenges managing

Had a challenging discussion with one of my colleagues about another one and a useful one with another manager about the issue. Some tough discussions ahead.

Puffed out

Had lunch on Puffy Billy and took the steam train to Lakeside. Nice trip but food was a little disappointing compared to what we got on the tram.

Puffing all the way to lunch

Enjoying lunch on Puffing Billy. Bumpy but that's half the fun.

Train Lunch

Booked to have lunch on Puffing Billy, a steam train ride on the Yarra Valley.

Smokey night market

Took Graham to the Queen Victoria Night Market. There was plenty of food, a few market stalls and lots of people. Far more people than I was comfortable being around.

Not the same any more

Discovered that the parents of one of my friends were murder before I came to Australia.

Plans aside

Nothing really went to plan today.  No trip to Hastings, as my aunt was ill and then I was struck by a very long lasting bout of diarrhea.  I did restore my new express drive and arrange my study, which Graham is now occupying.

Quiet night

Went into work and had my mid year performance discussion, no surprises.  The weather was all over the place today, hot and torrential rain at the same time  Only waiting on one more item for my iPhone, the battery cover and expandable cord arrived.

Got stuck

Had combined constipation and diarrhoea, which was not fun and in fact extremely painful. Couldn't sit down this morning, but got better in the afternoon. Didn't do the radio show and only briefly left the apartment.

Training at Joy

Attended to DPO training at Joy and it was useful and suggest that it better to keep most things out of the stack. Put my name down for Fresh Air but maybe doing it alone.

Back to work

Back in the office for me and turns out to be the last week there for Jillian before she commences 12 months secondment. Not sure how the team is going to function without her and what is expected of my team. Caught up with Vanda who is in a sticky situation as her work has just disappeared or apparently been taken away from her, not a good place to be.

Failure to deliver

Ed, Graham and I went to the Healesville Hotel for dinner and although the food was very well prepared, the evening was a disappointment with incomprehensible service and a misleading menu.

The Sanctuary

Spent the day with Ed and Graham in the Healsville Sanctuary, trying to find some native animals, which were all sensibly avoid the heat of the day.

My man is coming to town (maybe)

Michael is thinking about coming over for a holiday, I've told him held welcome to stay with me if he likes, he didn't want to ask in case I thought he was imposing.

All wines lead to sleep

Today Graham, Ed and myself were part of a wine tour around the vineyards of the Yarra Valley. It was highly enjoyable and although not all the wines hit the sweet spot, I did purchase a bottle of local Gerwurst to take home. Unfortunately after returning from the tour all I have wanted to do is sleep.

In the valley

Had a quiet morning, still suffering from last nights issues. Graham and Ed arrived just before 2 pm and I drove us all up to Healesville. The apartment is very nice, although I'm not sure how comfortable the sofa bed will be. Wandered around the town centre and cooked up a BBQ for our first dinner in the bush.

Not the best way to see in the new year

I can think of better ways to see in the new year than repeatedly visiting the toilet, but at least I was in the comfort of my own.

New Year Eve 2014

Started of very well, had a very enjoyable lunch launch with Graham and Ed. It started to go seriously down hill for me afterwards, so much so that I had to go home and its a good thing that I did as matters got worse before they finally came under control.
