Week 72 - Lockdown extended
I don't think anyone was surprised that the 7 day circuit breaker (ie lockdown) was extended for another 7 days, since it is the same thing that has happened for all the previous Victorian lock downs. Even though it wasn't a surprise that does not mean that it wasn't a disappointment when it was announced.
Work has not been helping my mood, with endless rounds of chasing people for information, used by other areas of the department. This means it has felt like there is little time to do what I consider my own work, reviewing the feeds and preparing the reports for the sectors.
One of my flights to New Zealand in November got rescheduled, so that I would need to spend a night in Auckland to connect another flight and therefore arrive back a day later. I took the decision to cancel my New Zealand trip to Christchurch, one of the flights has been refunded the other has been converted to a credit and I cancelled the hotel booking .I am also in the process of cancelling my trip to Sydney in October, I'm waiting to hear if my flights will be refunded and then I will cancel the hotel. I still intend to take the leave, but I will stay around Victoria I guess, assuming that we are not under any restriction then.
I think it's just too difficult to organise trips this year, with lock downs and border restrictions popping up with very little notice. At this rate this pandemic will take as long as the Spanish flu to overcome (and that was without vaccines).
Still no sign of the crane for the building site down the road, they are still working on the basement levels at the moment and to say that it's going to be taller than this building, they don't seem to have gone very far down.
It's a nice sunny day today, I am wearing shorts and a polo shirt. I want to get some sun on my legs. My skin has got really itchy recently on my legs, back and chest, and I'm hoping that a little bit of sun on my legs will as least help them.
I was thinking about taking the car out to go shopping since I am not using it very much at the moment, although the roads do not look very quiet to say we are supposed to be in a lock down and there is a limit of 5 km on shopping and exercising.
I have order an electric blanket for my elderly relative to replace the rug and fan heater she has been using, the rug has scorch marks on it so she has let it get too close the the heater and the electric blanket should help reduce her electricity bills as well, assuming we can convince her to do away with the fan heater (the electric blanket will have to use the same socket as the fan heater so she won't be able to have both).
